GREEN HORSE Rice Hull Stall Bedding
WELCOME TO THE NEWEST IN PREMIUM BEDDING
GREEN HORSE RICE HULL STALL BEDDING
Caring horse owners have a major concern for their horses' cleanliness and comfort.
With this purpose in mind, they primarily used existing products marketed for stall bedding -- straw or wood chips, pelleted wood chips, or shavings, all of which can be filled with dust and allergy-causing spores, and there have been reports of finding nails in wood chips. Beyond that, the cost of wood chips has soared along with the housing slump.
Nearly everyone in the world eats rice, so there is an abundant supply. At one time no one knew what to do with the by-product of rice hulls, and that has changed. At the mill, the rice hulls are run through a dust removal process, leaving the bedding clean and consistent with each load.
We have the stall bedding in either bags or bulk. The bedding is applied initially to a six inch depth to allow the rice hulls to do their work. Then a bag or so is added weekly as maintenance (depending on your horses turnout schedule it could be more or less). The urine filters through the rice hulls, which remain dry, and end up at the bottom of the bed. When the urine spot begins to rise to the top, the dry rice hulls are raked back and only the wet urine spot of rice hulls is removed. With daily cleaning ,the rice hulls sift right through the manure fork, and only manure is left to be removed from the stall.
This reduces your haul off costs significantly. Another benefit is that the wet, removed rice hulls can be reused/recycled by putting them in a round pen, hot walker or arena or dusty corral to hold down the dust and keep the ground from compacting.
